Illinois Alpacas: Our Story
If you are an alpaca lover, you remember the first time you laid eyes on alpacas! For me, it was when I sat waiting for a friend in Barnes & Noble and picked up a copy of Alpacas Magazine. It was love at first sight and the start of a new beginning! Three years later, I bought my first alpaca. Agisting (boarding) my animal for about two years, I pursued building a home and farm for alpacas, all the while acquiring more alpacas.
Along the way, I fell in love with a man who loves alpacas as much as I do! We married and today we work together as a devoted team. My husband, Gary, is a chiropractor and I am a Registered Nurse (R.N.), living and working on our alpaca farm in beautiful Kankakee county. We are passionate about the business of breeding to the finest bloodlines throughout the United States as well as the day-to-day activities of alpaca care.
My husband and I have demanding, full-time careers which limited the number of alpaca shows we could attend in the early years of our Illinois alpaca business. However, in those few alpaca shows we did attend, our alpacas consistently placed in the top five, even winning Color Championships. Since 2009, we have been more available to attend alpaca shows and we have performed exceptionally well with numerous first place finishes! We are very proud and pleased to have some of the best alpacas in the country! As you will note throughout our website, Keva Ranch for Alpacas breeds to the country’s finest herdsires. As a result, we have a true powerhouse of alpaca genetics!
The genetics of our Illinois alpacas include, but are not limited to:
